The read — Share The Music has raced twice, winning a Ballarat maiden on debut and running third in a Mildura Benchmark 62 five weeks later. No horse at Swan Hill brings a stronger finishing record. His raw pace tells a quieter story, and today's 1300 metres in the same grade asks whether a mid-field speed figure can keep producing top-line results as the trip gets longer and the field gets bigger.
Why he's today's profile — His Benchmark Performance Index of 90.91 is the highest of the 95 horses on the card. Among horses that meet our selection filters the next best is Ziggy Bama on 81.55, profiled here on 15 October, a margin of 9.36 points. Inside Race 8 only Neziha, on 82.50 off a single run this preparation, comes within ten points of him. Both of his starts sit inside one preparation for Taige Weir, who took out her training licence in February after a stint working under Chris Waller.
The pace question — His Velocity Rating moved from 5.47 on debut to 5.85 at Mildura, a career high set over a trip 200 metres longer. Against this field it is an ordinary figure. That 5.85 is exactly the median last-start reading among the 17 entries in Race 8, eight of his rivals arrive with a higher one, and 71 of the 95 horses on the card have run a faster peak. The finishing record and the speed figure answer different questions, and so far the first has run ahead of the second.
The recovery question — Thirty-six days separated his first two starts. Today he returns 21 days after Mildura, his first quicker back-up and 15 days shorter than the only gap he has shown. Our data generally supports a first quick turnaround, and the trade-off here is a shorter window to absorb the step to 1300 metres, the longest trip he has attempted.
What we're watching — Pace. Does his Velocity Rating keep climbing past 5.85 at a longer trip? Position. He came from seventh at the 800 metres to win on debut, then sat third at the same point at Mildura, so where he settles today shows which running shape he carries forward. Finish. A new track, his longest trip and a 17-entry field bigger than either of his first two all arrive at once, the clearest test yet of whether that finishing record holds.
