TH.INTEL’s Performance Profile comes from Hobart Race 9, where #3 Southern Auroras entered the race with one of the meeting’s more compelling preparation profiles, before making it back-to-back wins to open the campaign, taking out the Class 2 Handicap over 1200m at $4.20.
Entering today, the data already pointed this way. Southern Auroras carries a Benchmark Performance Index of 88.66, and both of TH.INTEL’s trend filters, PlaceRating and Bm PI, were climbing before the horse stepped onto the track. Those are the trends TH.INTEL looks for in a horse building towards peak performance.
The shape of this preparation is a clean one so far. Southern Auroras spelled for close to five and a half months, from early February to mid-July, then returned first-up at this same track and won last start. Seventeen days on, today’s run backed that up, its second win from its second start of the new campaign.
Today’s Last Run Velocity Rating, 3.84, sits 1.14 below Southern Auroras’s career-best VR of 4.98. Taken alone that reads as short of its ceiling, but the 4.98 mark was set in a maiden win back in December 2025, a separate preparation that had already ended well before this one began. Two runs into the new campaign, the horse hasn’t yet set a benchmark of its own to measure against, so the honest read is that there is no established campaign peak against which to measure today’s performance.
The 17-day gap into today’s run was longer than Southern Auroras’s 13-day AvSpell, though that average is built entirely from gaps inside its previous, now-finished preparation. This campaign is only two runs old, with no in-prep rhythm of its own yet to compare against, so today’s turnaround was genuinely the first gap of the new preparation rather than a deviation from an established one. A longer gap naturally raises questions around continuity of fitness. Southern Auroras answered those questions by producing another winning performance.
Two starts into a new preparation, Southern Auroras is building a clean performance profile. The early indicators were pointing in this direction before the gates opened, and today’s result simply reinforced what the data had already begun to suggest.
